The basic ingredients of mud include clay, water, organic and inorganic chemical additives, and inert materials, among others.
Mud is a mixture of suspension and colloidal solutions composed of clay and water. Of these, clay is the dispersed phase, while
water is the dispersing medium, forming a solid-liquid dispersion system. To facilitate better dispersion and stabilization of clay
particles in water, as well as to adjust the properties of the mud according to the conditions of the borehole, various inorganic or
organic chemical additives and inert materials are added to the mud. These chemical additives and inert materials are also part of
the mud. Therefore, clay and water are the basic materials for preparing mud, and their quality directly affects the quality of the mud.
